What a BIBLE STUDY and an AUTOPSY have in common…

May 9th, 2006

I’m in school.

I listen to hours of lecture about a guy who wrote a book about a guy who wrote a paper about a guy who believed he understood what a passage of scripture is saying…So I listen…and I wait.

I’m waiting for anything that sounds like “GOD”…I’m waiting for something to happen.

I’ve always believed that the scriptures are alive…that somehow the power of God is present in these words…

So, why do we treat the bible like a cadaver, or a dead body?  Why do we treat scripture like a body in a lab that USED to have life in it…we poke around and see if we can understand what happenED

Rather, when I read the scriptures I hear God saying that scriptures are LIVING AND ACTIVE!  I want to feel the scripture against my soul…and find out should happen!
Studying scriptures should be more like open heart surgery…the reverence of a medical staff listening intently to hear the sound of a heart beating to a rhythm in the open air.  Everytime we open the scriptures we are “pentrated” and “divided”…the living word of God makes an incision in our souls…simply by the sincere examination of scripture…

…So…what if stale bible studies all over the world…stopped poking around to determine the ’cause of death’ but rather approached the scriptures like an open organ operation…never knowing what will be required of them if they continue to search…

…Even better…we would take the posture of first century medical students who desperately wanted to be near a living organ…just to learn how it all worked…they wanted to see what was happening underneath the skin…they were sincere…they were thirsty…i envy their spirit of searching…
Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and active sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
